I have created these two 12x16 wildflowers on cradled birch panel for Pier One Imports. They are in the process of evaluating them right now and considering them for fine art reproduction. If they go for them, I will probably have to create four more in this same series of wildflowers.
Question for you, would you be interested in purchasing an original collage that has been licensed for fine art reproduction and would be available at Pier One Imports? Is the original still more valuable to you than a print?
Please leave a comment below, I'd like to know. I just might put the wildflowers up for bid on the blog.
I think the original is actually more valuable BECAUSE it has been reproduced--that is, more valuable than it would be if it had not been reproduced.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I think it's a great idea to have prints made for Pier One. It's a great way for more people to see your work. I think the originals would mean more to the buyers knowing they 'have the original' and in turn wouldn't mind paying for it. I hope I helped. Good luck- love your work!
ReplyDeleteI don't think the original art work would deter me from buying one of your prints.
ReplyDeleteI would be a treat to buy a print if I couldn't have the original.
Good luck and I hope all goes well. How wonderful for you for this opportunity.
The original would still be valuable to me especially if I "knew" the artist. You didn't ask this but again, if I knew the artist and could not afford the original, I would rather buy the print version directly from him/her. Otherwise, if I didn't know the artist well, I would just buy the Pier One version.
ReplyDeletePrints at Pier One would be a great way to reach an entirely new audience with your work. Are these people who would eventually purchase an original or attend a workshop? not sure - but you lose nothing in the process, right? congrats!! this is a great opportunity!!
ReplyDeleteI would love to own the original! Even if there are a gazzilion prints made there's still only one original.

Absolutely the original is still more valuable. The prints would not lessen their value. A print is more affordable though for those who can't manage the price tag of original art. It is the best of both world's to have both available. Good luck!

ReplyDeleteOriginal art is the real investment - yes, people still do buy reproductions, but the true value is in the original work. I think you should do what makes sense for you and there are certainly customers out there who can only afford the repros. I am thinking about the swimmers for myself....
I think about Thomas Kinkaid and all of his limited editions and that there really was no value in what he was doing, other than trying to make $$. Your work is sensational!
Congratulations, Elizabeth. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Pier 1 will license them. I think it will only make the originals MORE valuable if they are reproduced. good luck!! Your work is awesome, as usual.
ReplyDeleteI think having your pieces sold as prints at Pier One would open a market of admirers and collectors of your works. And I would still be interested in the original collage and would love to purchase one if I could afford it. It would be awesome to have an original piece of your art.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations for this awesome chance.
Thanks so much for all your kind words and taking the time to comment. I'm wondering about selling the original once it's been reproduced, but it seems you are thinking that it still has significant value!
ReplyDeletelove the idea of a print at Pier One...and to me the original would be even more coveted!
ReplyDeleteI just finished a set of poppies that Pier One loves and they have asked the canvas reproduction company to make samples for them to review!
ReplyDeleteHello Elizabeth, I just found your very interesting blog.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I know, reproductions do increase the price of the original in much the same way as winning an award would increase the value.
Your work is charming and I would love to see it in person. Is it on display in Central Fla?
