Ginny Stiles
Ginny has done two paper paintings since being inspired by my Collage Overview DVD. The bears is called "Overbearing" and the pineapple is called "Welcome" The pineapple was actually growing in her yard here in FL and when the cold weather came, her and her husband decided to cut it rather than let it freeze. Ginny told me it was just a tiny thing, but it inspired her and she wanted to paint it. I love the texture!
On the bears, I helped Ginny with some suggestions on how to keep the chair from blending in to the background and how to handle the shadows under the bears. It all came down to value, and making sure to consider, light, medium and dark and to separate each element of the composition by assigning it a value.
I think Ginny did a great job! Click here to see Ginny's blog.

these are great! see the joy you are spreading with your DVD!
ReplyDeleteGreat job, Ginny! I have yet to start one - bad me!!! It's in my mind, though, may come through any day but so far I haven't been struck by the muse.
ReplyDeleteGive yourself the permission to play and experiment with the technique, allow it to be a lesson and do not put the pressure on yourself of having a frame worthy finished piece!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth and Ginny - your work here, Ginny and your ability of working during downtimes has pushed me to start a paper painting - finally! ha ha I'll have something to share soon. So far, it is coming along well after watching your DVD one more time, Elizabeth, to get the details right.
ReplyDeleteAny questions, just shoot me an email: ejnelson@me.com Love to see what you come up with! email me a JPEG
ReplyDeleteyeahhh, Ginny! Your bear painting turned out great! Love the pineapple, too! Elizabeth, I could use some on-line lessons to keep me going, when are you going to start that:)
ReplyDeleteSandy, you need to come to a WORKSHOP! so much fun with a group. and you are NOT the first person to ask me about one on one, but I just don't have time in my crazy schedule to do that, workshops once in a while is about all I can handle. LOL
ReplyDeleteYou have got to attend a workshop Sandy if you have not! I attended the workshop and then purchased the DVD. The real life experience is amazing and Elizabeth will spend time with you one on one(even though you are in a group of 10-12)and help you get past any road blocks you may personally experience. I highly recommend the class! I have watched the video so many times on my mini DVD player before going to bed many nights. I shouldn't do this because it makes me want to create something! I can't wait to share my gnome with you Elizabeth. I am not quite done yet and will likely use the next workshop time to do the grasses....and those whiskers...haven't found the right paper yet. ;o)
ReplyDeleteDon't know if you participate in these things or not, Elizabeth, but I've given you the Sunshine Award that is going around - if your blog isn't full of sunshine, I don't know what is! (See Friday posting for info on it.) I like to break the rules, though, so you don't have to do anything but smile and enjoy.
ReplyDeleteNow off to work on that crow collage :)
I can't WAIT to get to a workshop! I plan to do the Asheville one if nothing goes wrong here. Will bring all my false starts and bad finishes:) Oh, and do we get to paint paper in that workshop, too?
ReplyDeleteJessica, thanks so much for your testimonial! I do try to get to everyone to give them individual encouragement and Sandy, bring all your stuff you've worked on and we can talk about it all. Asheville is a three day workshop, so YES we will be painting paper! I need to paint papers soon, running out of pale yellow due to TWO Yellow lab collages.
