Granted!

United Arts of Central Florida
I had applied for a Professional Development Grant through the United Arts of Central Florida to help defray the costs of and make possible a fantastic opening for my solo exhibition of collages in the theme of music, at the Maitland Art Center in September.

I just received notice over the weekend that I have been awarded that Grant! I cannot thank the folks at United Arts of Central Florida enough (especially Mary Patrick for fielding ALL my questions) for their generosity of funds that will make such a HUGE difference for me in putting together this 35-40 piece exhibition. Also, I must thank Richard Colvin, curator for Maitland Art Center, who attended the UA Grant panel meeting in my stead, as I was out of town the day of the review.

All artists can appreciate that the expense of supplies and framing for such a show can be staggering, let alone adding a potential catalogue and entertainment for the opening night (musical entertainment of course!). With this Professional Development Grant I will have the opportunity to exhibit my work at a level I have not had before. The Maitland Art Center is a highly regarded venue with excellent gallery space, and 35-40 Paper Paintings is a lot of artwork!

The Performing Arts of Maitland (for which I play the violin in their Maitland Symphony Orchestra) will be providing some opening night music for the event. I hope that you will mark your calendars!

  4. Elizabeth ... Congratulations on this award to help you prepare for your one person show at the Maitland Art Center.

My attending the opening grant review session of the grant applications helped me appreciate the diverse and fascinating projects!

I am going to send your grant award information to MAC as I believe your telling of your award helps promote your September 2010 show.

My learning about being a docent at the Maitland Art Center is a work in progress. What a person Andre Smith was! He was truly a visionary! Did you know the original name of SR 17-92 was Black Bear Trail?

  5. ME, I did forward the post to Richard Colvin, curator. I had to thank him over and over as he sat in place for me at the panel review, I was out of town. It is good news for them in promoting the show, you are right. I will send him the logo for that purpose, if he does not already have it. But do send the info along, I am sure it's good PR for them to hear about me from people OTHER than me. ha.I did not know about Black Bear Trail, but you are right, Andre SMith was a visionary!

  7. I'm so glad for you, for this wonderful honor. It'll make such a difference in your being able to produce and frame the necessary pieces. How I wish I could be there.
Hmmmm maybe you could make a paper painting of a black bear on a trail!
